Meet Lourdes Díaz

Lourdes is an MSC Civil Engineer specialising in road transport, a field where she has been working in the national and international context since 2005, the year in which she began working at the Spanish Road Association (AEC). She is also secretary of various UNE Technical Standardisation Committees and the National Association of Screen Devices and Noise Barriers (Asociación Nacional de Industriales de Pantallas y Dispositivos Anti-Ruido - ANIPAR).
As an expert engineer in road safety and the environment in the Technical Department of the Spanish Road Association, she has worked on more than a dozen research projects and has participated in the writing of three books. One of her main references is her participation as a researcher in the development of the Road Safety Assessment of the Inter-American Development Bank, where she developed a road safety categorization for Latinamerican countries. The International Road Federation (IRF) recognised this project with the 2012 International Road Safety Award.
Although her main field of work has been road safety, she has significant experience in adapting roads to climate change, integrating roads into the environment, new technologies, etc. At European level, she has been involved in various research projects on road safety.
