Meet Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE)

Founded in 1175, the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE) is the third oldest University in the world and has been ranked among the first ten Italian universities for quality of teaching and research, according to the most recent assessment of the Italian Ministerial Committee for the Evaluation of Research (CIVR).

Committed to advancing knowledge through innovative research initiatives, its interdisciplinary projects address complex societal challenges and drive advancements in various fields. With a global perspective, UNIMORE fosters a vibrant multicultural environment, welcoming students, researchers, and scholars from around the world.

The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE) operates under a "site network" model, collaborating closely with both Modena and Reggio Emilia cities, alongside various private and public entities.  It counts about 20.000 students, including 3.500 postgraduates. It has over 600 international exchange agreements and cooperation programs to encourage students and researchers to actively interact in a globalized world.

Research is conducted by 13 university departments representing all the principal disciplines, and by numerous departmental and interdepartmental centers involved in specialised research activities. Many of them are nationally and internationally recognized. The University's staff consists of approximately 880 professors, lecturers and researchers. Research activities and projects are implemented at Interdepartmental and research centres.

UNIMORE, encompassing methodological and applied research, technology transfer, and university education across various engineering and basic science disciplines, stands as a hub of academic excellence.

Furthermore, UNIMORE is part of eleven international research networks, including the European Automotive Research Partners Association (EARPA), the European Factories of the Future Association (EFFRA), euRobotics AISBL (Association Internationale Sans But Lucratif), and four national technological clusters, including C.F.I. - Cluster Fabbrica Intelligente, CTN Tra.IT2020 - Cluster Trasporti Italia 2020 - Mobilità sostenibile.

Relevant Background & Expertise

UNIMORE has extensive experience in participating in both international and national projects, particularly in the fields of transportation, logistics, automation, and optimisation research. In addition to various collaborations and involvements in research networks, UNIMORE has been actively engaged in numerous European projects, assuming various roles ranging from project coordination and administration to research activities. These research activities encompass evaluations of social, environmental, and economic impacts, definition of evaluation frameworks, and participation in international events.

  • UNIMORE has been involved in several Horizon Europe projects, including the following strongly related to KEYSTONE:

  • AEOLIX - Architecture for European Logistics Information eXchange.

  • FENIX - European Federated Network of Information eXchange in LogistiX.

Within KEYSTONE…
Within the framework of KEYSTONE, UNIMORE is the Project Coordinator.

As WP7 leader, UNIMORE oversees Administrative and Financial Management (T7.1) as well as Technical Management (T7.2). The responsibilities associated with the Project Coordinator role involve:

  • Facilitating communication between the Consortium and the Commission regarding project progress and execution.

  • Ensuring the day-to-day operation of the project by delivering results from various Work Packages (including deliverables and milestones).

  • Conducting audits of costs and revenues.

  • Providing timely reports on the financial status and overall progress of the project.

Meanwhile, the tasks overseen by the Technical Manager, responsible for ensuring coordination across the Work Packages, include:

  • Coordinating technical progress and ensuring consistency across various tasks.

  • Chairing the Technical Coordination Group comprised of WP leaders.

  • Monitoring progress within each Work Package.

  • Ensuring the seamless integration of developments within the KEYSTONE project.

UNIMORE is responsible for T5.2:Evaluation of the impacts of the solutions proposed, providing its expertise in the evaluation of KEYSTONE solutions, paying particular attention to the peculiarity of the activities developed within each pilot.
