The Future of Logistics: IRU Shares Vision at World Free Zones Congress
News of Interest
EU and China Launch Cross-Border Data Flow Communication Mechanism
On 27 August 2024, the EU and China launched the first discussions under the new Cross-Border Data Flow Communication Mechanism.
The new mechanism will focus on practical solutions to assist European companies with cross-border non-personal data transfers in China.
Data flows are essential for EU-China trade, but China's 2022 data export rules-particularly the ambiguous term "important data"-have created uncertainty. Future discussions will take place at expert and technical levels, with progress expected to be reviewed at the next political opportunity.
On 24 September 2024, IRU outlined trade and logistics solutions to enhance resilience at the World Free Zones Congress in Dubai, UAE.
During the World Free Zones Organization's Annual Congress in Dubai (UAE), IRU President Mr Radu Dinescu highlighted the importance of the customs transit system, which enables goods to flow efficiently across borders under the Transports Internationaux Routiers (TIR) procedure. He emphasised how it reduces cross-border transport times and enhances security in global logistics. Finally, he focused on AI technologies and digital tools that can further strengthen logistics operations.
Europe’s First Electric Truck Charging Corridor Inaugurated in France
The new charging corridor aims to enhance electric truck reliability and reduce emissions.
A new initiative to encourage the use of electric trucks on long-haul journeys was launched at the Galande service area near Réau, south-east of Paris. The corridor, spanning the A5b and A6 motorways between Paris and Lyon, features an ultra-fast charging station to facilitate heavy mobility. This initiative aims to reduce freight transport emissions, helping to cut 40,000 tonnes of CO2 over the next decade while eliminating fine particle and nitrogen oxide emissions.
