Meet Julio A. Soria-Lara

He is a Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the Universidad Politécnica Madrid (2019-present) and a Tenured Scientist at the Spanish National Research Council-CSIC (leave-of-absence). Before coming to Madrid, he was an Assistant Professor of Geography (2012-20103) at the University of Zaragoza, Spain. Then, he was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship and moved to Amsterdam (Netherlands), to be part of the Centre for Urban Studies at the University of Amsterdam (2013-2015). In February 2015, he was awarded a Marie Curie Postdoc Fellowship, joining to the Transport Studies Unit at the University of Oxford, UK.

He has developed an accomplished, independent research career, that focuses on three main research topics: (i) participatory scenario building; (ii) accessibility planning; (iii) the environmental impact of urban mobility. In these fields, he has been PI of international, national, and regional R&D projects, such as: “BACK-SCENE”, “TRANS-URBAN”, “iCITIES”, “SIM4PLAN”, and “VIR2ALL”. His research findings have been published in more than 80 peer-reviewed publications, including scientific journal articles, books and book chapters.
