On the 28 and 29 November 2023 partners of the KEYSTONE project, including the Spanish Road Association (AEC), they met again to advance their objective of promoting the digitisation of freight transport.

The meeting took place in Novara, Italy, at CIM Spa - Interporto di Novara offices, one of the 15 entities comprising this consortium.

Lourdes Díaz Toribio, Civil Engineer from the Technical Department, attended the meeting on behalf of AEC.

The first working session included a round table under the theme” The digital transformation of the Italian transport and logistics sectors and their integration into the European global ecosystem," organised by Coventry University (UK).

Mauro Dell'Amico, professor at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, moderated the debate and reported on the progress of the project's activities during its first six months.

Massimo Arnese, ICT Director of CIM, focused the discussion on the value of digital transition in the sector within Italy. Following his intervention, round table participants discussed the challenges posed by this process within the national transport and logistics ecosystem and its interoperability with systems across the European Union.

The session proved very useful for elaborating on and analysing issues such as critical assets (databases, digital goods, and services) and the secure and efficient use of personal and sensitive data in transit.

Interview Session

Simultaneously, an interview session took place where representatives from each participating entity answered a series of questions covering general and technical aspects. They also shared experiences regarding the challenges encountered during the implementation of project activities, as well as their motivations and objectives for joining the consortium.

Finally, all participants convened to document, review, and discuss the progress and development of activities within each work package.

The meeting concluded with a guided tour of the CIM multimodal logistics centre facilities.

The European Commission, Responsible for the Project

Financed by the European Union under the Horizon Europe Programme, the KEYSTONE project aims to create intelligent and digitised solutions to enhance the sustainability and efficiency of transport operations.

KEYSTONE, which stands for Knowledgable Comprehensive and Fully Integrated Smart Solutions For Resilient, Sustainable and Optimised Transport Operation, brings together 15 entities from six countries under the auspices of the European Commission (EC), which oversees the project.

The Spanish Road Association (AEC) is part of this consortium, along with Transyt, the Transport Research Centre of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Both entities represent Spain in the European programme. Additionally, the AEC participates in Keystone through another member, the Smart Transportation Alliance, of which the Association is a founding member.
