KEYSTONE kicks off: A European project aiming to digitally improve controls in the logistics supply chain
In Novara, CIM spa Interporto di Novara and Cefriel, the Research, Innovation and Training Center of the Polytechnic University of Milan gathered together with KEYSTONE project partners and stakeholders to identify the needs that public authorities and logistics operators face on a daily basis in terms of cross-border controls. The meeting gathered together public authorities and logistics operators of the project, in order to identify problems and needs related to compliance checks for cross-border road freight transport. The goal is to simplify and improve controls through the creation of a digital ecosystem capable of enabling the secure and controlled exchange of freight transport information.
The first round table of KEYSTONE project held at the headquarters of CIM spa Interporto di Novara with important representatives of institutions and businesses being present: Mr Gianfranco De Angelis of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport; Mrs Alessandra Faranda Cordella, Questore of Novara and province; Mr Davide Tanzarella, Director of the Reggio Calabria Customs Office; Mr Zampaglione Pasqualino, Coordinator of the Piedmont Road Judicial Department; Mrs Anne Guèrin, Terminal Manager at Combiconnect Srl (Hupac Group); Mr Matteo Apollonio, Manager at DBA Group; Mr Aldo Croci, Director for Information Technology at Hupac Group; and Mr Pietro Rossi , Fleet Control Manager at Move Intermodal Srl;
Numerous outcomes emerged during the discussion that was initiated between actors who daily face problems in the area of cross-border controls. According to Mr Sabino Metta, KEYSTONE project manager for Cefriel, “The discussion highlighted the need to track, monitor and reconstruct the routes of goods, vehicles and drivers crossing different European countries.The opportunity to access different databases, in a timely and reliable manner, would improve the quality of controls by ensuring higher levels of security and combating organized crime.”
Effective and reliable monitoring and control of compliance with EU road transport legislation will only be possible through rigorous compliance checks involving the collection, verification and analysis of a range of data that are related to the driver, the vehicle, the operator, the load, and the type of transport. This is why the KEYSTONE project funded by the European Commission and the United Kingdom Research & Innovation (UKRI) - aims to identify the types of data that can be securely connected in order to facilitate public authorities and logistics operators.
The KEYSTONE project consortium is focusing on gathering the requirements and needs of all types of parties potentially interested in these issues. For this scope, a survey has been created with the aim of collecting the needs and obstacles that currently affect cross-border controls carried out by enforcement authorities.
The survey is anonymous (no personal data will be collected) and is also open to all those who wish to remain informed and/or participate concretely in the project activities in order to address the results of the work in a timely and tangible manner.
Find the survey available in the following languages : English, French, German, Greek, Spanish, Italian. The duration of the survey is approximately 10 minutes.
